| Although He had given them His Word and had sent them His prophets, knowing His people would claim to be mystified by His action, God gives a crystal-clear explanation. That is, “Because you have served foreign gods in your own land, you will now serve them in a foreign land.” The irony is that, although they served foreign gods in their own land, they would eventually return to their own God in a foreign land - but the lesson would be a painful one. If you’re pursuing the gods of materialism, lust, pleasure, intellectualism, or any other god, take heed. Whom the Lord loves, He chastens (Hebrews 12:6). Therefore, like the people of Judah, you will have no reason to be surprised if He allows you to in some way be removed from the blessings of your own land and plunged into an unfamiliar, brutal, foreign land in order to ultimately draw you back to Him.
